Meet the cast members of Variety Fare

 
     
Lena Palermo  

Lena Palermo -

Juilliard-trained Lena Palermo has been singing since her first vocal competition at age eight. Lena spent many years in Victoria performing professionally at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and in the Mary Winspear Centre’s Fabulous Fridays shows prior to moving to Toronto in 2003.  In Toronto, Lena worked in TV and film with credits including Ghostly Encounters and a nationally run commercial series of ads for Curves.  She also toured in Canada and the US doing musical theatre playing, The Wicked Witch in Oz Recalled (Toronto), Annabelle in Utah’s Crying (Toronto) Gymnasia  in A Funny Thing Happened on The Way to The Forum (STC) and Miss Stacey in Anne of Green Gables (Kaleidoscope, Victoria). 

While in Toronto Lena created Star Potential Studios and Studio 60 Theatre where she produced and directed  fifty productions over the nine years she owned the studio. Currently, Lena is working on her Masters, teaching music and is the Artistic Director of the Peninsula Singers. Lena is happy to working with Bob again after 18 years, to be working with a wonderful ensemble of singers and to be on stage with her husband Steve Ivings.

 

Katya Delancey  

Katya Delancey -

Not new to the Victoria music scene, in the past four years alone, she has appeared in Intrepid Theatre’s production of Winnie the Pooh, Kaleidoscope’s Little Shop of Horrors and The Addams Family, the Musical

She is also adept on the Shakespeare scene having  appeared in productions of Macbeth and Comedy of Errors.  She has an extensive musical history which makes her a valuable member of the Variety Fare group.

 

Helena Descoteau  

Helena Descoteau -

Helena is an accomplished triple-threat, being a graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts and having spent many a year in dance classes, voice lessons, choral groups and drama courses.

In the years since CCPA she has performed with theatre companies all around Victoria, appearing as Princess Jasmine (Aladdin the Panto, St. Luke’s Players), various ensemble parts (Sunset Boulevard, Anne of Green Gables, VOS) and most recently, Elinor Dashwood (Sense & Sensibility, Langham Court).

 

Cody Miller  

Cody Miller -

Cody is a graduate of the Spectrum Community School Fine Arts Program with a double Major in Band and Musical Theatre and is delighted to join the company of this season's Variety Fare.

Previous Victoria credits include; The Adams Family with Kaleidoscope Theatre, Thoroughly Modern Millie, A Christmas Story, A Chorus Line, and Monty Python's Spamalot, with the Victoria Operatic Society, and most recently Urinetown with Langham Court Theatre. Cody has also performed in several chorus line cabarets with Gotta Getta Gimmick  throughout Victoria and is currently playing drums and percussion with the Best Coast Big Band.

 

Craig Wilson  

Craig Wilson -

Craig is a veteran of the Victoria Operatic Society and is remembered for his 2013 tour de force performance as The Engineer in Miss Saigon. His other VOS credits include Crazy for You (Bobby), Guys and Dolls (Nicely), Beauty and the Beast (Lumiere), Sweeny Todd (Anthony), Brigadoon (Tommy), West Side Story (Diesel), Oklahoma (Will Parker) as well as Grease, Will Rogers Follies, The Wizard of Oz, and Broadway Decades In Review.

He has also performed on the Langham Court stage in Company, Blood Brothers, Jitters, Mother Courage and most recently in the dual roles of Dr. Fine / Dr. Madden in Next to Normal.


Jo Barnes  

Jo Barnes -

While new to Variety Fare, Jo isn't a newcomer to the local theatre scene and has performed with many companies. Recently seen as Marilla in the Victoria Operatic Society production of Anne of Green Gables, Jo played Fraulein Kost in Cabaret (Langham Court), Mrs. Medlock in Secret Garden (Four Seasons Musical) and Isabel in Pirates of Penzance (Victoria Gilbert & Sullivan).

You may have seen her also as Janet/Angela in St. Luke's Players' Duets, Queen Gertrude in Victoria Shakespeare Art's Hamlet and Lady Plymdale in Langham Court's Lady Windermere's Fan.

A trained dancer in a variety of styles, Jo has a passion for the arts and currently works as a freelance writer for several travel websites and local publications.
